Glycolic Acid (AHA) & BHA

The word ‘acid’ might alarm some people, but the proper amount and use of the acids on the skin can improve the appearance of the look young and healthy skin.

Glycolic Acid is part of the Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) family. Alpha hydroxy Acids are acids that occur naturally in various fruits and foods. Citric Acids from citrus fruits, Lactic Acid from milk, and Tartaric Acid from grapes. Glycolic Acid found in sugar cane is the most effective AHA as it has the smallest molecule, which enables it to penetrate more effectively and to ultimately bring about the most dramatic and beneficial changes, compared to the other fruit acids.

Medical studies have revealed that Glycolic Acid may stimulate collagen production, increase epidermal volume, remove surface dead skin cells and even act as a powerful antioxidants. Tests also illustrate, how Glycolic Acid acts as delivery agent when combined with other beneficial ingredients producing desired result.

The use of Alpha Hydroxy Acids in beauty regimen usually combined with Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA). Salicylic Acid, the lone BHA, is found naturally in willow bark, sweet birch bark and wintergreen leaves. It is a fat-soluble acid, allowing it penetrate into the pores. Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA’s) speed up cell turnover when Beta Hydroxy Acids assists in purging the follicle for a clean smooth, more healthy appearance.
